Beyond disappointing

The only thing worse than the quality of these pants is the customer service. I can only assume that Miklaagard's reputation for quality is out of date, now they are selling out quality, cutting corners, and cashing out on an old reputation for quality to increase profit.
The thread is cheap, thin, twisted nylon which popped in four seperate places when i first tried them on. They have only a single factory stitch holding everything together, including the pockets, which is already coming undone after wearing the pants twice (so five rips in two days)
Miklagaard sent me pants two sizes too small, even though i ordered a size up becaused i needed them a little big, and instead of owning up to the mistake and trying to fix it, they jumped to the conclusion it was my fault and said too bad. When i pointed out all the flaws with the pants and how fragile they were, they simply parroted buzzwords from thier site back at me, simply saying 'no, our thread is very robust, it doesnt break' even when i sent them a picture of the popped stitching, comparing it to the thread that came free with a child's sewing kit i got from japan, which is much thicker and stronger braided nylon. I fixed it with a saddlestitch, which is much stronger than the factory made lochstitch Micklagaard uses, so don't buy these pants unless you are ready to replace every stitch seam by seam.
i also fixed the pants size by soaking the wool (which absorbed the water very quickly like cotton, so i wouldn't count on water resistance either) ringing them out and wearing them for four hours as i slowly walked around and did squats to stretch them. The stitching held up until they started to dry, but every where i rienforced with quality thread held up perfectly, so it is definitley a quality issue.
Further, there are many other small things Miklagaard does to drive down quality, cut corners, and keep the price at a premium to pocket more cash, for example it doesn't cost much to include an extra pocket, especially when you are assembling the pants in the quickest and cheapest way possible. I assumed the pants with extra pockets were more expensive because of quality thread, stitching, etc but that is clearly not the case. They could have also fixed the spliting crotch problem with a patch in the center, a common inclusion from cheaper brands.
The zipper is so far very nice, probably because Miklagaard didn't make it themselves.
If the price point was closer to nintey dollars, i could see why the quality would be this bad, but for 160 + 40 for shipping, Miklagaard should at least try to back up thier words and self aggrandizement with a product that looks like they at least tried.

Great fabric and design

I bought these for hunting. I walk a lot and have worn out several other manufacturers pants. Their pants developed pile and eventually holes in high wear areas. I really like these pants from micklagard.
Pros:
- soft, quiet, and warm
- breathable in wide temp range, no odor, easy to clean.
- fabric seems to resist briars and sticks better than traditional weave wool
- fabric resists wind and water better than traditional weave wool as well
- excellent design. Sits at natural waist.
Love the high back waist. Hip pocket gives little extra capacity without bulk or discomfort. Nice deep front and back pockets.
Fit- they are some of the best fitting wool pants I've ever bought. I followed their measuring guidelines.

Cons
- stitching: they are single stitched. First week wearing them kneeled down and ripped the crotch seem 6". Repaired with dental floss and needle no problem since then.

Overall: very satisfied think they will last a long time. I walked an average of 5-6 miles a day for 3 weeks and there is no sign of pilling or wear. They are super soft and comfortable even without base layer on.

Great product!

I use these trousers mainly for hunting. Excellent quality, great fit and comfortably warm. Probably not going to be the last purchase from Micklagard.

Quality!

I recently moved to Alaska and thankfully found Micklagård. I can get out and hunt comfortably, quietly in heavy snow. The wool kept me warm, dry and protected from the wind. And it doesn’t itch at all. Remarkable stuff, I’ll be ordering more soon.
